Services: Great crested newt pond surveys at National Trust Tyntesfield
Fees Scale: Not applicable
Objective: First Ecology assisted Norton Radstock College students with the long-term monitoring of a pond at National Trust Tyntesfield. The survey protocol involves two annual visits to the pond each March. During each visit great crested newts are netted from the pond and individually identified by the unique yellow and black markings on their underside.
Outcome: The survey collected seven great crested newts in total, five male and two female. This is significantly fewer than in previous years but was attributable to the cold night temperatures.
